All You Need to Know Before Purchasing an Air Conditioner

When choosing an air conditioner for your house or business, there are a number of factors you need to consider. And with the introduction of more energy efficient options, choosing the best air conditioner that not only gives you lower electricity bills but also saves the environment is not as easy as it seems!

To make the air conditioner buying process a little easier for you, we’ve compiled a list of things you should be focusing on when purchasing your new AC unit:

Prices are Cheaper in the Cooler Months

When demand is low, prices fall. Many brands offer sales and discounts on AC units in the cooler months as there are fewer people in need of an AC unit in winters. This makes them the perfect time to purchase a new unit. Be prepared to watch the prices shoot up the roof as the weather starts getting warmer!

Types of AC Units

There are a number of different kinds of AC units available on the market. Depending upon your needs, you can choose from window ACs, split ACs, a central air conditioning unit or a portable AC. If you’re planning on cooling the whole house, a central AC unit will work best!

Capacity

Depending on the size of the room you’re planning on installing the AC in, the size and type of your unit will vary. If you’re planning on limiting the cooling effect to one small room, a small 1 ton or 12000 BTUs per hour AC is typically good enough for any room smaller than 140 sq. ft. The larger your rooms, the higher the tonnage of your AC will need to be.

Energy Efficient Air Conditioners

Air conditioners marked with the Energy Star sticker are typically more energy efficient and less money consuming than regular ACs. These stickers typically note the Energy Efficiency Rating (EER) of that particular model of AC, giving you a better chance at making the best choice. Units with a higher EER are typically more energy efficient.

Noise Levels

Window and portable ACs are typically noisier than split ACs, whereas central AC systems make close to no noise. If you are a light sleeper, buying a noisy AC could prevent you from having a good night’s sleep.

Choose a system with a lower decibel level for optimum peace and quiet while enjoying your cool room in the hot summers.
